Be Part of Preserving Local History
The Harper’s Ferry Area Heritage Society relies on volunteers to help preserve, share, and celebrate our community’s history. Whether you enjoy working with people, sharing local stories, lending a hand with a project, or contributing a particular skill, there are many ways to get involved.
You don’t need to be a history expert or have previous volunteer experience. Every contribution helps us preserve our heritage and build something meaningful for future generations.

Ways to Volunteer
- Host or assist with tours of the Oil Springs School
- Help teach or facilitate historical activities for youth groups, schools, 4-H, Scouts, and camps
- Assist with exhibit planning and artifact care or repair
- Contribute local knowledge, stories, or historical research
- Paint and help prepare the museum interior
- Assist with landscaping and mowing
- Help with general maintenance, repairs, and handyman projects
- Lend a hand with special projects as needs arise

Volunteers Make a Difference
HFAHS volunteers have helped bring our community together in many ways, from setting up Christmas decorations and lights in Tillinghast Park to assisting with the Firecracker 5K and supporting community projects such as the electronic sign.
Together, volunteers have contributed more than 860 hours to HFAHS projects, helping preserve local history and strengthen our community.
